2008 IRP

2008 Kauai Island Utility Cooperative
Integrated Resource Plan

IRP is the process electric and gas utilities use to estimate short and long-term load growth and decide on the best mix of resource to address that growth.

Appendix A
IRP Framework

Appendix B
Electric Load Forcasting

This section describes the method, assumptions and data used to develop a 20-year forecast of electricity energy and peak loads our through 2025. In addition tot the "most likely" forecast, alternative sensitivity scenario forecasts are derived, based on high and low forecas5s for key explanatory variable such as population, which were used to project loads based on regression equations as described in this section.

Appendix C
Renewable Energy Technology Assessments

The objective of this study is to identify the best options for renewable energy development on the island of Kauai. This summary provides a comprehensive overview.

Appendix D
Feasibility Study for Port Allen Power Station GT-1 Replacement

KIUC is exploring the economic feasibility of replacement of GT-1 combustion turbine generating unit. This unit was identified for replacement to improve plant reliability, capacity, and efficiency. This report presents the results of that evaluation.

Appendix E
Energy Efficiency Potential Study

This study assesses the electric energy-efficiency potential for the residential and commercial sectors on the island of Kauai. The study was commissioned by KIUC as part of their efforts to update the Integrated Resource Plan. While this study provides energy-efficiency potential estimates for a 20-year period, the main focus of this report is on the next 10 years.

Appendix F
Overview of UPLAN Model

The UPLAN Network Power Model projects detail physical and financial operations of electricity markets under conditions ranging from traditional regulation to competitive market structures.

Appendix G
GenX Option Screening Study

KIUC recently identified the need to look into a near-term addition of generation capacity. The near-term selection of a capacity generation unit referred top as GenX plays an important role in the IRP process and it’s the basis for the comprehensive study that is the subject of this report.

Appendix H
Annual Net Energy Metering Evaluation

An overview of NEM, including history, issues, impact, actibity and status reports.
