2005

In an attempt to encourage and promote young artists on the island, KIUC held a calendar of student art contest to feature the artwork of Kauai students, grades K-12, in our first calendar for 2004. We’re now looking forward to our second calendar for 2005. Twelve months and twelve grades, provided a perfect format to produce a functional calendar and to celebrate the arts, a vital element of education. It is our hope that participation in this contest will play a part in encouraging a life-long love of art. The cover art is designed by Kindergartners and each grade is matched with it’s corresponding month, First graders depict January, Second graders are assigned February and so on through December with 12th graders. Each winner receives $100 and each honorable mention recipient receives $50. Honorable mentions are also featured in the calendar. All participants receive certificates. An overall “Artist of the Year” is also selected and will be featured in our upcoming bi-monthly magazine. There is no limit as to how many times a student may enter. Artwork is judged on artistic merit, creativity and how well the assigned month is depicted.
