Residential Surge Protection Program

The Residential Surge Protection Program provides a line of high quality surge protection products for protection of electric service entrance and sensitive electronic equipment within the home. The program is available to the residential market. Collateral information is available to build awareness of the causes and solutions for power surges and educate members about the program benefits.

Effective surge protection requires a multiple point approach. A meter based arrester to provide whole house surge protection which will be leased to the member for a small monthly fee. There will be a flat fee to install the arrester and a monthly charge that will appear on the bill.

The member will be offered the additional option to purchase "plug in" surge protectors in the form of a multi-stage power strip and compact single point receptacle suppressors. If the member chooses not to purchase the "plug in" surge suppressors from KIUC they will be advised to purchase them from local retailers to assure they have the most complete protection against electrical events that can damage their equipment.

Pricing

There will be a one-time per account installation fee of $40.00. This is intended to help cover the cost of the installer's time in checking the electric meter enclosure and verification of appropriate grounding of incoming telephone and power utilities. There will be no cost to remove the arrester.
