9.14.2026: KIUC and HECO line crews continued repairing damaged lines, poles and electrical equipment on the North Shore today. Based on progress to date, KIUC anticipates that the first North Shore restorations could occur in portions of Princeville and Hanalei Wednesday, although any number of factors – including weather – could impact this estimate. Once those first restorations are made, we can better estimate a restoration timeline for the rest of the North Shore. Note that these restoration estimates are based on current conditions and may change if crews encounter additional damage or other unforeseen challenges.

9.13.2026: KIUC line crews along with personnel from HECO made repairs to transmission poles on the Hanalei side of Hanalei Bridge today and other clearing activities also took place on the North Shore. A significant number of line personnel will be deployed to the North Shore starting Monday, September 14. Based on observations and work completed over the past four days, it’s likely that the first restorations for North Shore members could take place early this week in portions of Kīlauea, Princeville and Hanalei. 

9.12.2026: On Sunday, September 13, KIUC will be repairing transmission poles on the Hanalei side of the Hanalei Bridge. Work will require a lane closure with alternating traffic and may take 8 hours or more to complete. The exact start time tomorrow morning is still to be determined. Work is expected to continue into the early evening. Please be prepared for delays, plan accordingly, and use extra caution around coned work areas.  Flaggers will be onsite for traffic control. Repairs to the north shore electrical system will continue throughout next week. Estimated restoration dates will be communicated once they are available. KIUC will continue to provide communication with North Shore customers via this Everbridge notification system. These messages are delivered to the customer of record on your KIUC account. 9.11.2026: Contract crews began vegetation clearing and repairs to transmission lines that serve the north shore (i.e., all communities north of Moloaa). KIUC personnel, along with crews from Hawaiian Electric Company, are conducting damage assessments on distribution infrastructure. KIUC's President and Chief Executive Officer, David Bissell, surveyed damage on the north shore and met with community members in Princeville and Hanalei to share a general roadmap for restoration of the roughly 5,000 accounts served by the north shore transmission line. Bissell estimaged that transmission repairs could be complete by the end of next week, with distribution repairs to follow as transmission circuits are deemed safe for energization. If all goes well, the first north shore restorations could begin late next week; however, restorations will occur in phases when distribution circuits are deemed safe for energization. There is no estimate currently for full restoration of the north shore, as damage to utility infrastructure, especially along Powerline Road, is extensive. A more detailed restoration schedule for the north shore will be shared as soon as it is available.
